Doctor Strange is white. Has always been white. There were awesome casting choices for POC but it went to a white actor. Why are people upset? Strange is white. Nobody was upset when Captain America was Chris Evans and not someone of color. It’s about accuracy. I would never cast someone like Ben Stiller as Black Panther. I honestly can not understand why people are upset by this. At all. 

I’m gonna say this once and this is going to be the only thing I say on the matter since it’s very possible Benedict isn’t even cast as Strange, as seen here.

People are frustrated because they feel betrayed. They look to Marvel as something they love and Marvel has failed them. They look to Marvel to hold the same beliefs they do about equality, whether it is race, gender or sexuality. And if they cast Benedict, Marvel is failing them. Marvel is acting like it is consistently okay to only give us straight, white, male protagonists and people are sick of it. 

We look to the company that we love, and we are betrayed. We hold them to a better standard because we deserve better. We are the ones that make them the money. We are the ones that pay to see these movies. We—women, POC and LGBT people all pay to see these movies. And it hurts when a company like Marvel turns its back on the fans that aren’t straight white men. It hurts when something we love is problematic trash — for lack of a better term. 

I don’t know if you did’t pay attention when the first Captain America came out but people did complain. People absolutely complained about Chris Evans being cast. And even now, there are people saying that Falcon should take over as Cap rather than Bucky. Because we deserve diversity. Just because you don’t see these conversations doesn’t mean they don’t happen. 

The reason people were so insistent on Dr Strange being cast as a POC is because his ethnicity has been ambiguous and never directly stated in the comics so there is a HUGE opportunity for Marvel to come in and cast a POC instead of another white actor. And even if he is white in the comics? Who cares? Nicholas Fury was originally white in the comics. 

People are frustrated because they want to see people who look like them, people who are like them (be it race, gender, sexuality or any other reason I may be leaving out) represented on screen and Marvel is failing them. You know what the underlying message is when only white men are the centre of these movies?

Only white men can be heroes.

Only white men can have stories. 

We, the fans who do not fit under “straight white male” are complaining because we deserve better. Marvel, who has become successful off our money as much as the money of straight white men continue to ignore us and this is unacceptable. 

It is unacceptable in the way we don’t have a Black Panther movie yet, unacceptable in the way we don’t have a Black Widow movie yet, unacceptable because Janet Van Dyne and Cassie Lang the two women responsible for both Antman’s becoming Antman are ignored. (Also, for the record, people did complain about Hank Pym being involved because they didn’t want another straight, white Antman either). 

What you are seeing are people who are frustrated and betrayed speaking out against a company they love, demanding that they do better. Because it is no longer enough to give us only stories about straight white men. We are no longer satisfied when one of the most successful movie companies ever will not give us diversity.

If you don’t understand this, I hate to tell you but you are part of the problem.

That one time an SJW said that legions of invisible people are entitled to a non-white Doctor Strange in the MCU because a) they want one, and b)pretended Falcon, Fury, War Machine, Gamora, and Black Widow don’t exist.

Of course, after the events of Age of Ultron, I’d really like to see what sort of lolgic they use now. 

The funny thing is that Janet and Cassie certainly weren’t ignored in Ant-Man, and >Kate’s post was posted October 27th of last year<. You know, a full nine months before Ant-Man came out, >after Cassie’s role was announced<, and after Black Panther and the Ms. Marvel movies were announced. In fact, one of their other posts on that day specifically mentions Cap 3. 

In short, this moron is actively ignoring minority representation so they can complain about the lack of minority representation.

Marvel doesn’t owe you shit, movie watchers.
